In the afternoon hours of Thursday, 36 students, four teachers and one person from the working area of the Liceo Bolivariano Alí Rodríguez located in the Campo Elías municipality (Ejido) presented symptoms of intoxication, due to inhalation of toxic substances, as reported by the head of the Center for Educational Quality of Mérida, Nelson Ruiz.
He explained that the security agencies are in the process of investigating the events that occurred at the Bolivariano Alí Rodríguez high school, known as Liceo Ejido, “it is presumed it was a phosphorus substance, which is used in the fields, those affected by inhalation were treated by the Mérida Fire Department and Ejido Civil Protection and transferred to the nearest health centers to provide the necessary care.”
Likewise, he announced the suspension of school activities in public and private educational establishments for this Thursday and Monday, “the security bodies, Governor Jehyson Guzmán, together with the commander of the Comprehensive Defense Operational Zone (Zodi), Bencir Guerrero Ochea, determined suspend school activities with two measures, for this Friday the cleaning of schools and high schools and next Monday hold assemblies of parents and representatives through the Educational Councils to guide and make preventive decisions regarding what our young people follow on social networks and the challenges spread by it, which have brought very serious consequences in other states, and we do not want that to be repeated in Mérida.”
