Unemployment rate drops in 7 states in the third quarter, says IBGE

The unemployment rate, also called the unemployment rate, fell in seven units of the federation in the third quarter of this year, compared to the previous quarter. The biggest drop was observed in Bahia, where the rate fell 1.4 percentage points, going from 11.1% in the second quarter to 9.7% in the third quarter. The other six places with a drop were Rondônia (-1.2 percentage points, from 3.3% to 2.1%), Rio de Janeiro (-1.1 percentage points, from 9.6% to 8 .5%), Mato Grosso (-1 percentage point, from 3.3% to 2.3%), Pernambuco (-1 percentage point, from 11.5% to 10.5%), Rio Grande of the South (-0.8 point percentage, from 5.9% to 5.1%) and Santa Catarina (-0.4 percentage points, from 3.2% to 2.8%).

Despite the drop, Pernambuco continues to be the state with the highest unemployment rate. Rondônia had the lowest rate. THE national unemployment ratereleased at the end of October, fell to 6.4% in the third quarter, lower than that observed in the second quarter of this year (6.9%) and in the third quarter of 2023 (7.7%).

In comparison with the third quarter of last year, the unemployment rate fell in 13 units of the federation, with emphasis on Amapá (with a drop of 4.3 percentage points, from 12.6% to 8.3%), Bahia (-3.6 percentage points, from 13.3% to 9.7%) and Pernambuco (-2.7 percentage points, from 13.2% to 10.5%).

The other 14 federation units showed rate stability compared to the third quarter of 2023.

The informality rate in the labor market, that is, the percentage of informal workers in relation to the total number of employed people, increased in only two states, compared to the second quarter of this year: Bahia (2.3 percentage points, reaching 51 .7%) and Mato Grosso (1.7 percentage points, reaching 35.3%). In the other units of the federation, it remained stable.

In comparison with the third quarter of last year, there was also an increase in just two places: Roraima (3.6 percentage points, reaching 47.8%) and Rio Grande do Sul (1.4 percentage points, reaching 32.9% ). No unit in the federation showed an increase.
