Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader announced that the Dominican Republic was chosen for the first time to host the International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC), the most important global forum dedicated to the fight against this scourge.

“It fills us with joy, responsibility and a great commitment to continue fighting for transparency, fighting corruption and for the country to continue advancing in the fight against impunity,” said the head of state.

This conference, to be held in 2026, positions the country as a key actor in promoting transparency and good governance in the region.

In addition, the representative of the Transparency International organization and director of the IACC, Roberto Pérez Rocha, recognized the efforts made by the Dominican Republic in the fight against this scourge, managing to advance in the Corruption Perception Index in the last four years, for above other Latin American countries.

In that sense, he highlighted the designation of an independent Public Ministry and the creation of the Anti-Fraud Unit of the Comptroller General of the Republic and the Asset Recovery Program.

Pérez Rocha also recognized the progress within the National Public Procurement System, through the implementation of policies such as the Preventive and Reactive Alert System, the Regulatory Compliance Program and the Open Data portal that contribute to reinforcing integrity and transparency in the purchasing processes carried out by the Dominican State.

For his part, the director of Public Procurement, Carlos Pimentel, highlighted that the choice of the country reflects not only the recognition of progress in this matter, but also the Government’s commitment to building a more comprehensive and transparent country.

“We are convinced that the fight against corruption requires alliances and dialogues that allow us to learn about the best practices in this matter and this will be a favorable scenario to not only show the achievements achieved by our country, but also to connect with international leaders and experts. who will share their experiences in the fight against this scourge,” Pimentel stressed.

The conference will bring together world leaders, representatives of the private sector, civil society, journalists, academics and government officials to address the main challenges in this area.

Likewise, the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Andrés Bautista, the director of Citizen Participation, Erick Hernández-Machado, of Budget, José Rijo, and others were present.
