Prominent former Villa Clara receiver and his daughter, announcer, die

SLP, Mexico.- José Gómez Pinto, known throughout the world baseball player as “El Látigo Gómez”, a prominent former Villa Clara receiver, died this Thursday, November 21, one day after the death of his daughter.

The day before, the announcer Hanny Gómez Méndez, daughter of the baseball player and director of the Villa Clara Radio and Television, died in the city of Sagua la Grande, after fighting cancer for two years.

The news was confirmed by the local Villa Clara press, which mourned the death of both, without specifying the cause of the player’s death.

According to the sports media Full SwingJosé Gómez Pinto also worked as a coach in several categories, and was a highly respected person in Cuba.

“Hanny’s physical departure was too much for his father, who could not endure so much suffering and just a few hours after her death he also ceased to exist,” the media reported.

For its part, the station CMHWwhere she worked until illness prevented her, noted that Hanny Gómez was the founder of the territorial channel Saguavisión.

With a life dedicated to radio, the announcer also went through the studios of the municipal radio station Radio Sagua and from there continued to the provincial station CMHW, where she would work until her illness forced her to stay at home.

“She became one of the broadcasters most identified and followed by listeners for several years,” that medium wrote.

Hanny Gómez had been proposed this year for the “Violeta Casal” Prize for Voice over, awarded by UNEAC.

This year, death has claimed the lives of women dedicated to the Cuban audiovisual media.

Also this month it emerged that Yarelis Reyes, a young Cuban journalist and director of the Morón Te Ve municipal telecenter, died in Ciego de Ávila, according to several official sources.

The president of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC), Ricardo Ronquillo Bello, mourned the death of his colleague through a publication on Facebook.

Reyes died as a result of a heart attack, sources confirm of public media of communication in the province of Ciego de Ávila.

The young manager began her working life in the sector as head of the youth and children’s editorial team of Radio Morón, and worked as a journalist in radio and television.
