The situation in the micro and small business sector is worrying. Marco Antonio Condori, leader of the microentrepreneurs of El Alto, reported that, given the shortage of dollars, the rise in input prices and the recent blockades, which left serious financial consequences, They will not be able to pay their workers’ bonuses.
The leader explained that microentrepreneurs are not in a position to comply with the payment of this benefit as stipulated by the norm, but stressed the intention of reaching agreements with their workers to offer them benefits adjusted to their capabilities.
“We are not able to pay bonuses, But we are going to give its benefits according to the possibilities that each of us has,” said the leader.
The microentrepreneur clarified that these agreements are carried out on a sectoral basis. In addition, he noted that this industry is being affected by the current political situation.
The lack of liquidity and production costs have led many production units to be at risk of closure or have had to cease activities. Condori added that they have been the sector most affected by recent strikes and blockades, which, he claims, have caused million-dollar losses.
“We are reaching consensus with the workers, and we will do so. We have been the most affected sector, not only due to the lack of dollars and the increase in input prices, but also because of that strike, those marches and the 24-day blockades, which have affected us enormously. “These are million-dollar losses that no one is going to replace.”
A commitment to workers
Despite the difficulties, he highlighted that the microentrepreneurs of El Alto are committed to their workers. For him, the key is to maintain a frank dialogue and look for payment alternatives that can be met, even if that involves payments in kind or in installments. “It is a deal between us and our workers, we are going to comply because we also knowand we are aware of what it is like to be a worker,” he declared.
He assured that this position will be proposed in an upcoming national assembly, in which they hope to reach a consensus. an official statement reflecting internal agreements and define how microentrepreneurs could face the situation without further affecting their operations or their staff.
The economic situation has led this sector to unite and seek government projects and programs that help them stay afloat, as they believe that it is essential to receive the necessary support to preserve jobs and production in El Alto.
