He corporate general manager of Minera Apumayo, Guillermo Shinnostated that next year he hopes that the company will begin operations of the Crespo gold project in Cusco. This was announced in an exclusive interview with the Diálogos Mineros program, of the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP).
“In the case of Crespo, it is a Hochschild project that already had all the permits, including permits to begin construction of the project. And that is what we have done, once we agreed on the acquisition of the project, we have started with its construction, we already hope to finish the construction by February of next year, and some permits that will take more months. We hope that towards the middle of next year we could begin the Crespo operation,” he commented.
Crespo is a disseminated high sulfidation epithermal depositwith a useful life of 8 years and estimated resources of 800,000 ounces of gold. It has an investment of US$ 150 million. Furthermore, it is estimated that, starting in its second year of operation, the project will reach a production of 100 thousand ounces of gold per year, generating approximately 1,500 direct and indirect jobs.
Likewise, Shinno announced that in the first quarter of next year they plan to present the Environmental Impact Study of the Ancos project in Ayacucho. It is an initiative valued at approximately US$ 100 million and has nearly half a million ounces of gold in reserves, which gives the mine a useful life of between eight and ten years.
“And if everything goes well, from there maybe a maximum of a year, we could be starting the construction of said project. The other projects are still at an earlier stage,” he noted in the IIMP programme.
It should be noted that according to Guillermo Shinno, Minera Apumayo has six exploration projects in Peru that are located in Ayacucho, Moquegua and Cusco. “There are six (exploration) projects on which we are focused due to the expertise we have from the projects we have worked on. “We are looking for disseminated gold oxides that are worked in an open pit and processed by leaching,” he concluded.
Guillermo Shinno: Minera Apumayo is willing to incorporate partners in its copper projects
Likewise, the corporate general manager of Minera Apumayo, Guillermo Shinno, said that, although the company is focused on finding widespread gold, in the course of its explorations they found copper deposits. “And those types of concessions that apparently contain other minerals, we are open to other types of companies that are dedicated to the exploitation of copper being interested in entering into an association together with us, where they would lead. They would manage the entire project, but we are open to those possibilities,” he said.
Under that premise, he revealed that there are a couple of copper concessions that have captured the interest of top-level companies. “We have signed a confidentiality agreement. They have already reviewed all the information in the data room. And there is a company that has shown greater interest in continuing to advance in the next stages in this possible association that could exist,” he explained.
Likewise, he explained that the interest of the companies are two copper projects that are located in Apurímac. It is expected that in the course of next year there may be news.
