Santo Domingo.-The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Defense of the Environment and Natural Resources (Proedemaren) seized this Wednesday 312 sound equipment from the Provenza, Zahara, Habibi, Esparta nightclubs, among others, during an operation carried out in the Plaza Universitaria , of the National District.
The authorities took away horns and other equipment for sound uses through which the businesses in the place allegedly incurred sonic pollutionviolating the provisions of the General Environmental Law.
As explained in a statement, the judicial action was approved by Judge Kenya Romero Severino, coordinator of the Investigative Courts of the National District, who validated the elements presented by the Public Ministrythrough Proedemaren, since they demonstrated that these businesses were violating Law 64-00 on the Environment and Natural Resources, as a result of the violation of the laws against noise pollution, in articles 5, 85 , 92, 93, 95, 114, 174, and 175 of said standard.

The operation was led by prosecutors José Miguel Mordan and Awilda Balbuena Olivo.
According to the evidence, the nightclubs also failed to comply with the articles of the Law on the Prevention and Suppression and Limitation of Harmful and Annoying Noises that produce noise pollution.
Likewise, it highlights that articles 29, 51, 53, 59 and 154.5 of the General Health Law, numbered 42-2001, were not complied with.
It indicates that before the inspection carried out by Proedemaren, the Consortium of Owners of the Torre Elipse Condominium, represented by Mr. Samir Barbour, filed a complaint against the commercial entity called Provenza RD, which was received on May 8, 2024 by the secretary of that agency, which reports the recurrence of the violation of the provisions of the law, to the detriment of the residents of the place.
