A few days ago, the young bassoonist from Cali, Karina Muñoz, shared a video on her social networks, where she reported that Icetex had withdrawn the scholarship she had obtained months ago in the “Young Talents” program. This program offered an invaluable opportunity to continue master’s studies in contemporary classical music at the prestigious Liceu Conservatory of Barcelona. However, an unexpected notification from Icetex changed his future.

Karina explained in the video that she had planned to finance her tuition with the financial support of Icetex. Given the lack of additional resources, the young woman had to resort to a million-dollar loan to cover the initial expenses of her trip to Spain. “I have to pay it in December,” said Karina, who is now in a complex financial situation and with the uncertainty of not having the support she expected.
In her message, Karina made a public call to the president of Icetex, Patricia Abadía, requesting that she reconsider the decision. «I know you have the power to do it, don’t leave me here. “Don’t make me return to Colombia with debts and without a job,” he expressed, showing his desperation for an answer that would allow him to continue his studies in Europe.

After Karina’s complaint, Icetex spoke out, clarifying that the process was not about a scholarship, but about a forgivable creditwhich implied a series of additional requirements that the young woman would not have met. According to the entity, Karina must have completed certain approval and legalization processes in order to be considered a beneficiary.
Icetex explained that the list of the 122 preselected was published on September 2, the same date that Karina announced that she had been selected. However, after an exhaustive review, according to the entity, it was found that several applicants did not meet the established requirements.
«Karina had a certification that did not meet the 120 hours required as a requirement to be able to carry out, in the future, the forgiveness process. “Karina was discarded because she lacked that certification, like other people,” they indicated.
According to the entity, the young woman from Cali would have traveled to Spain “without having final approval,” and the embassy where she requested the visa “denied her the possibility of receiving the letter issued by Icetex because it indicated that she was preselected.”

Despite Icetex’s clarification, on her social networks, the young woman emphasized that “the legal part is already in process” and that he hopes to resolve his situation with the entity.
