This November 23, the Cafam Theater will be the scene of one of the most transcendental classic works of romanticism: The German Requiem by Johannes Brahms.
The concert will feature more than 80 artists on stage, including the Bogotá Symphony Orchestra and the Bogotá Choral Society, under the direction of German maestro Michael Meissner. Called “The Requiem for the Living,” the work uses biblical texts in German to reflect on grief, hope and consolation.

“Apart from the fantastic music of Brahms, which is already a standard, it is the most that can be offered musically, in his symphonies, his concerts, etc., it is this set of religious or philosophical texts that gives a very enormous plus, because apart from the musical depth we have this spiritual depth, so we are going to leave the concert doubly benefited,” explained Michael Meissner, German director.
Since its premiere in 1868 in Bremen Cathedral, this piece captivated the public consolidating itself as one of Brahms’ most emotional and profound creations. On this occasion, the performance will be accompanied by the outstanding soloists Manuela Tamayo (soprano) and Juan David González (baritone).
“In this show you will see the choir and the symphony orchestra together with two soloists… it is a work basically based on biblical texts, so it is basically religious. Basically this work talks about a change towards the positive, as if things are bad, but everything will get better,” said Manuela Tamayo, soprano singer.
The production of this event is in charge of the Bogotá Symphony Orchestra Foundation (FOSBO) in collaboration with the Cafam Theater.
