Santo Domingo.- The president, Luis Abinader, signed the National Pact for Road Safety with the National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (INTRANT), through decree 656-24, which will promote the development and implementation of labor plans for road safety that allows public and private institutions to improve road safety through preventive and corrective actions related to road safety.
“This national pact for road safety represents the starting point to review previous road safety plans and reformulate a new national plan for road safety 2025-2030,” said the president in his space with the press, La Semanal.
The plan will disseminate knowledge and application of Law no. 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transportation, Transit and Road Safety of the Dominican Republic.
It is also committed to strengthening the institutions to allow continuity in the plans and programs.
The pact will be based on strengthening oversight of compliance with current laws and regulations regarding road safety.
“Historically, accidents claim more lives than in the case of the pandemic. Between 2016 and 2024, 26,257 people died,” Abinader said.
It will serve to promote road safety education in the country with campaigns adapted to local and cultural contexts, promoting changes in behavior.
The president highlighted that public-private collaborations and sponsorships will be arranged to implement road safety actions.
