The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, welcomed the release of political prisoners in Venezuela and affirmed that the European Union will continue to demand the freedom of all those unjustly detained.
In a press conference from Brussels, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrellcelebrated this Monday the recent release of a group of political prisoners in Venezuela by the government of Nicolás Maduro. However, he stressed that the EU will continue to demand the release of all those imprisoned for political reasons, especially those with European citizenship.
“It is good news that Maduro has released a significant number of political prisoners. None of them deserved to be in jail for even a single day,” Borrell said after the meeting of ministers.

Despite the gesture, the community bloc maintains its position of not recognizing Maduro as legitimate president, reiterating that the elections that brought him to power lacked transparency and democratic guarantees and reaffirming its support for the Venezuelan people in their fight for democracy.
“We do not recognize the legitimacy of that government and we will continue supporting the people of Venezuela in their fight for their democratic rights and supporting, whenever possible, a negotiated solution to the current crisis.”
In response, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil shared on his Telegram channel that Borrell finishes his mandate «with more lies about our country, self-conscious about its defeats, the historical ones against the European empire and the recent ones inflicted by the Bolivarian Revolution»

Threatening once again the Venezuelan people to apply sanctions and ignoring our democracy, which teaches quite a few lessons to ancient Europe. Failure after failure!… Let it serve as a lesson.
