Outrageous. A Sunday investigation End Point announced that the company Frigoinca, which provided food to the Qali Warma state program, offered the same preserves to an animal shelter.
The questioned entity, which earned millions of soles by producing Don Simón preserves for the food program focused on children’s nutrition, provided the same food to animals from the “Entrepatas” animal shelter, which feeds 45 street dogs in Chepén .
“They contacted us (from the company) and told us that they wanted to make a donation, but that it was not for human consumption, it was only for the animals,” said Kimberly Hernández, representative of the animal shelter.
Thus, the food used to feed these canines is the same that Frigoinca, through the Qali Warma program, allocated to the tables of the poorest children in the country.
After the alleged corruption network in Midis and the health sector became public, 22 officials were separated from Qali Warma and Digesa, the majority being criminally denounced.
And, despite the fact that “strange matter” and “black stains” were reported between 2021 and 2022 in Don Simón preserves, as well as cans with loss of vacuum, these continued to reach the tables of the poorest children in the country. Peru that accessed this program.
In 2023, Cajamarca and Ayacucho recorded cases of stains and foreign matter in canned meat. And this year, from Piura and Huánuco, cases of health problems and the presence of swollen Don Simón cans were reported, among what was distributed by Qali Warma.
However, every time any of these deficiencies in Don Simón products were reported, the Health sector sent a delegation to take samples, but when the specialists arrived at the plant, in Chepén, the batch in controversy disappeared, eliminating any possibility of analysis.
These lots went to the “Entre paws” shelter, to which thousands of these products arrived under a single warning: THEY WERE NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.
But what Frigoinca delivered to the shelter was not just any product, it came from exactly the same production batch that Qali Warma had destined for schools in Ayacucho.
A total of 64,579 cans of the Don Simón brand preserved pork in water and salt product arrived at the shelter, according to a document obtained by the Latina Research Unit.
In the document, it can be seen, the company commits the shelter representative to allocate the consumption of the product received for the exclusive consumption of domestic animals.
Midis responds to the investigation
The Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion issued a statement ensuring that the Qali Warma program does not distribute food intended for animal consumption, in addition to not intervening in the final disposal of food declared unsuitable.
