The Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruzreported this Tuesday that the country achieved self-sufficiency in the production of foods such as rice, potato, cassava, chicken, eggs and others compared to previous years.

He said through a press release “that we have a record potato productivity of 800 thousand quintals, 40% more than during the 2016-2019 four-year period, which remained between 600 thousand quintals.”

While in rice there was an increase of 23% in production; onion, with 239%; 102% in cassava; 23% more bananas; 25% chicken; We increased egg production by 34% and 4 percent more pigs than in the last four years, indicated the head of Agriculture.

The minister stressed that the four-year period 2020-2024 was transcendental for the government of President Luis Abinader, since it increased production and productivity in the main food products of the basic basket, surpassing the four-year period and the indicators of the 2016-2019 period.

He stated that all these results are the result of an agricultural policy focused on greater investment through financing; greater support for production; marketing with more profitable markets in the country and abroad; more exports with greater and better benefits for the producer.
