Last Saturday, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba visited the grave of former President Alberto Fujimori, who died in September. Ishiba left him flowers and prayed for his rest.
As is known, Ishiba came to Peru on an official visit to participate in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC). The authority took advantage of the trip to go to the Campo Fe cemetery in Huachipa.
The Japanese public broadcaster NHK showed images of the president placing white flowers on the grave and making a small prayer for the soul of the former president of Japanese origin.
Alberto Fujimori maintained ties with Japan, which protected him during his exile, which led to diplomatic friction between Tokyo and Lima at that time. Despite the impasses, the Asian giant values Fujimori’s management during the takeover of the Japanese Embassy in Lima by the terrorist group Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) in 1996, which left 17 dead (14 terrorists, two soldiers and a hostage).
