On the second day of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum Leaders Summit (APEC), Peru has taken significant steps to strengthen its international relations in key areas such as trade, technology and sustainability.
One of the most notable milestones occurred on November 14, when the Peruvian government and the People’s Republic of China signed a protocol to optimize the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). This agreement modernizes the trade terms, adapting them to the dynamics of current global trade, and promises to strengthen economic ties between both nations.
In the same framework, the president of the United States, Joe Biden, announced an economic aid package for Peru worth $65 million over the next five years. During his bilateral meeting with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, Biden detailed that this assistance will include the delivery of helicopters, the training of more than 130 pilots and technicians, as well as the donation of 150 wagons and locomotives for the capital, Lima.
According to the US president, this collaboration seeks to significantly reduce costs related to pollution, in addition to marking the beginning of greater cooperation in sustainability and urban transportation.
On the other hand, Google will make a donation of 2 million soles to Kodea, a non-profit organization that works committed to promoting digital skills and together with its local partner Entrepreneurs for Education, they will implement a program that seeks to bring together more than 50,000 educators and students of public schools in vulnerable areas, tools for their training in artificial intelligence.
In the technological and aerospace field, Peru is preparing for an ambitious project: the construction of a space port in Talara, Piura region, in collaboration with the United States and NASA.
This project, which requires an estimated investment of 1,000 million soles, aims to position the country as a benchmark in space exploration and technological development in the region.
