The day before, the Judiciary (PJ) issued 18 months of preventive detention against its former trusted men César de la Cruz and Edson Flores, who would have been in charge of collecting the money contributed by the office’s servers at the request of the legislator.
This is the first time so far this five-year congressional period that the PJ has ordered preventive detention against the staff involved in a case of salary cuts by a parliamentarian.

Last August, a newspaper report on the program End Point He denounced that the legislator cut 10% of the salary of her workers, arguing that the money would be used to meet the expenses of the lapicito group.
As determined then, those affected had to deposit the money in the accounts of their driver and trusted man César de la Cruz Canales. Given this situation, the Public Ministry began the investigations and within that framework, days ago, it ordered the search of four properties in Lima and Arequipa, including Agüero’s homes and congressional office. He later requested 18 months of preventive detention for De la Cruz and Flores.
On Friday, in response to that request, the Judiciary ordered the preventive detention of both for 18 months and ordered the immediate transfer of Flores to a penitentiary center; He had already been preliminarily detained during the search operation.
As far as De la Cruz is concerned, he is in an undocumented capacity, which is why the court has issued an arrest warrant against him. According to the Public Ministry, he would have moved approximately S/27,000 in transfers and S/64,000 in cash.
According to the Team of Prosecutors against Corruption in Power (Eficcop), Agüero would have abused his position “to induce and/or force the workers in his office to deliver various sums of money coming from a percentage of their monthly salaries between June 2022 and May 2023”.
Despite the evidence, the Peru Libre party issued, after the complaints, a statement giving its support to the congresswoman. Cerrón did the same from hiding.
Who is María Agüero?
María Agüero is from Arequipa and has generated controversy so far in her congressional mandate due to different events. Last year he stood up to the terrorist Víctor Polay Campos, alleging an alleged violation of his rights. “What did Polay do specifically? Why do they call him a terrorist? And the terrorism that comes from the State?” the parliamentarian questioned, referring to the leader of the Revolutionary Movement Túpac Amaru.
Months ago, meanwhile, she was declared persona non grata in Arequipa due to her homophobic expressions some time ago in which she discriminated against two educational institutions in the region: Micaela Bastidas and the Independencia Americana school.

It was when referring to the comments that some friends made to him after learning that their children were studying in said educational centers. “They were horrified. They said: ‘How are you bringing them from having studied in the United States, from having studied in Beverly Hills? You are going to take them there to the street vendors who bring their children, who cut faces and who are all lesbians and criminals.’ and they make you afraid,” he said.
Not only that, the Perulibrista legislator has complained on more than one occasion about the amount of remuneration she receives as a congresswoman of the Republic. This despite the fact that, like his colleagues, he receives 16 salaries of S/15,600 soles a year, plus extraordinary bonuses. The first time was in September 2021, just two months after taking office, and then in 2022.
“I want to tell you, they tell us that the congressmen earn 15 thousand soles, how much do we receive? 10 thousand, how much do they discount us and where does it go? to health insurance,” he said then.
