The two Spanish political prisoners leave with a periodic appearance before the judge “and with the promise not to make statements,” reported the ABC newspaper.


The Consulate of Spain in Caracas reported this Saturday, November 16, that two citizens of Spanish nationality, political prisoners in Venezuela, were released, “conditionally,” early this Saturday; reviewed the diary ABC.

According to the Iberian media, the identity of both remains anonymous, and that “the two Spanish political prisoners are released in very peculiar conditions, with a regime of periodic presentation before the judge and with the promise not to make statements.

The non-governmental organizations (NGO) Penal Forum, Venezuelan Prisons Observatory (OVP) and the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners confirmed the release of several political prisoners held in the Yare III prisons, La Crisálida Training Center for Female Prosecuted Women ( Miranda state), Tocorón (Aragua) and Tocuyito (Carabobo).

Those released are part of those detained during the post-election protests on July 28.

According to Alfredo Romero, director of the Penal Forum, until 1:15 in the afternoon this Saturday there were at least 70 political prisoners released.

1,976 political prisoners

Last Tuesday the 12th, the Attorney General’s Office promised to accelerate criminal proceedings against adolescents and young people detained after July 28, after the ruler Nicolás Maduro requested to “rectify” if there were errors in the arrests during the post-election protests.

According to the Penal Forum’s balance, until November 13, 2023, in Venezuela the number of political prisoners reaches 1,976. These would be the first releases.
