For González Urrutia, the measure carried out this Saturday represents “a step” towards reparation for victims of human rights violations.
«The release of political prisoners today is a step towards reparation for victims of human rights violations. We cannot forget that they were unjustly detained, that they spent months in undignified conditions, that they were denied their right to self-defense, that they were accused of being terrorists,” he explained.
Both also had words for the victims, their families and human rights organizations. “You have deafened the world with your cry for justice,” said the diplomat. Machado highlighted “the bravery” of the relatives of the detainees, “as well as the rigorous work of human rights defenders, inside and outside Venezuela.”
All Venezuelans share immense relief for each political prisoner who returns home and the joy of their families at being able to hug them again.
