The losers of the 2025 Economic Package
Although security is a priority issue in Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, in the Economic Package 2025 The biggest cut is proposed for the Secretariat of National Defense, it is also a turn to what happened in the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, since it was one of the most benefited.
The project budget for Defense in 2025 is 151,995 million pesos, this is 43.8% lower in real terms than that approved in the 2024 PEF.
The second agency whose budget was reduced the most is the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), since they are considered 44,370 million pesos, lower by 39.4%.
The third least favored is Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection which Omar García Harfuch is in charge, with an estimated budget of 70,422 million pesos, a real reduction of 36.2%.
The part of Health will continue to be punished, since this secretariat will only have 66,693 million pesosalthough Sheinbaum has spoken out for an improvement in Mexico’s system, this budget is 34% lower than the PEF 2024.
The energy regulatory bodies are still on this list of the biggest losers, who are planned to join the Ministry of Energy, they were given a cut in 32.9%respectively for 2025. The National Hydrocarbons Commission has proposed a budget of only 173 million pesos and the Energy Regulatory Commission of almost 200 million.
