Juan Alberto Alvarez Andrademayor of the Chancay district since 2023, said in conversation with RPP that he contacted the Minister of Transportation, Raúl Pérez-Reyesto address the urban proposal that it contemplates, through the Ministry of Transport and Communicationsa new route to avoid the Pan-American Highway. However, this initiative would have had restrictions, as it was located at a distance of between 100 and 200 meters from the beach, which, according to the mayor, would affect the tourist projections planned for Chancay. In this context, Álvarez Andrade mentioned that, although his relationship with the Minister of Housing is on good terms, he still maintains differences with Pérez-Reyes due to the lack of response to his communication to discuss the proposal.
“An urban development plan has been prepared where, through the Ministry of Housing, the new city is being established with an avoidance road that goes 7 or 8 kilometers from the Pan-American highway, from the beach. However, the Ministry of Transport and Communications wants to impose an avoidance route between 100 and 200 meters from the beach, which means that we are going to lose the beach, we are going to lose the view of the beach. The tourist opportunity that we intend to have for the future of Chancay. HE “will be affected by an avoidance route where high-tonnage vehicles, heavy vehicles, will travel,” the mayor indicated.
