Within the framework of APEC 2024the leaders of the world’s most important economies will meet in Peru to address bilateral alliances in economy, trade and technology. Among the presidents who will arrive in Lima is the leader of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Luong Cuongwhose political ideologies are opposed to those of the mayor of Lima, Rafael Lopez Aliagawho on several occasions showed his total rejection of communism and socialism.
However, he would have forgotten his political positions, because through a tweet from the Municipality of Lima it was announced that López Aliaga received President Luong Cuong at the Municipal Palace and gave him the Key to the City to then declare him an Illustrious Guest of Lima.
Rafael López Aliga: “Death to communism!”
In 2021, during one of the marches in favor of Keiko Fujimori’s candidacy, López Aliaga had strong qualifiers against Pedro Castillo and the socialist ideology proposed by his Peru Libre party. He even confirmed his words with a tweet where he said the same phrase again.
This brought a lawsuit by Pedro Castillo and Vladimir Cerrón against López Aliaga in which they required that the mayor of Lima be ordered to “refrain from attacking the life and personal integrity” of Castillo and Cerrón, since “they have been publicly threatened with death.” The controversy ended with the rejection of the claim by the Constitutional Court.
Vietnam is led by the Communist Party of Vietnam
Vietnam is one of the five remaining communist and one-party countries in the world. No political opposition is allowed and only the Communist Party of Vietnam is recognized as a legal political organization. The politics of the Asian country is dominated by an authoritarian system and although they are open to foreign trade, a leaked document from the Government and published by the BBC indicates that they would be wary of economic investment.
