This 2024 has been one of the most critical for the Dominican student class, and this according to specialists in the area, due to the number of strikes or demonstrations carried out by the unions that group the teaching sector.
So far this year the Dominican Association of Teachers, (ADP) has carried out dozens of strikes nationwide that have affected the teaching of at least 2.6 million students, of the Initial, Primary, Secondary and Adult Modality levels.

The reasons for these demonstrations remain the same, salary increases, pensions, and other “demands.”

Provinces where the ADP has carried out strikes
Saint Dominic, May 2024 : The ADP has carried out several strikes and demonstrations in the capital, including a major march on May 1 towards the Ministry of Labor.
Greater Santo Domingo, November 2024: In addition to the strikes in the capital, the ADP has held regional rallies in Greater Santo Domingo along with other organizations, such as a joint rally held in the vicinity of the Ministry of Education, on Wednesday, November 6.

Santiago, November 2024: In this province of Cibaeña, strikes were recorded in at least 63 educational centers in Santiago, affecting more than 20,000 students. this Wednesday, November 13.
Mao and Valverde, November 2024The Juan Isidro Pérez school in Mao has been the scene of a strike that affected 600 students, due to the rejection of the request to comply with the schedule last Tuesday, November 12 of the current year.

The constant strikes keep parents, teachers and behavioral specialists worried, who raise the negative effects of these protests on students.
Such is the case of the professor and communicator Manuel Cruz who assures that the Dominican Republic is one of the countries with the most educational suspensions in the region.
“That in many cases alters the productive dynamics of mothers and fathers,” said the teacher regarding the impact of the strikes on public education.
On her side the psychiatrist Alexandra Hichez He assures that the situation not only affects the school dynamics, but “causes trauma to the student.”
