The Ministry of the Interior (Mint), controlled by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, through two ministerial agreements, disclosed this November 15 in La Gaceta, ordered the cancellation of 15 Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) in Nicaragua ; 13 for alleged “non-compliance with the laws that regulate them” and two for “voluntary dissolution.”
In ministerial agreement 45-2024, the Managua government detailed that it canceled, for “non-compliance with the laws that regulate them”, the legal personalities of the Yes to Life Association; Rehoboth Council of Christian Churches; Teach a Man to Firsh Uk Limited; Evangelical Mission Association Eternal Life in Jesus; Myright Empowers People With Disabilities; The Americas Association for the Care of Children; and Nicaraguan Association of Endodontics (ANE).

Also, they canceled the Más que Vencedores Religious Association for that same reason; Community Development Movement Association; Community Development Association of San José de Cusmapa; Matthew 5:16 Ministry Association in Nicaragua; Apocalypse 3:11 Church Association; and the Mesoamerican Information Service Association on Sustainable Agriculture.
«The aforementioned organizations have failed to comply with their obligations as established (…) in Law 1115 (General Law of Regulation and Control of NPOs), since by not reporting their financial statements for periods of between 1 to 5 years in accordance with periods fiscal entities, with detailed breakdowns of income and expenses, trial balance, details of donations and their Boards of Directors, hindered the control and surveillance of the General Directorate of Registration and Control of NPOs of the Ministry of Interior,” argues the Mint ministerial agreement.
Ficohsa Foundation ceases operations in Nicaragua
In ministerial agreement 46-2024, the Ministry of the Interior also approved the cancellation of the legal personality and registration, due to “voluntary dissolution”, of the Ficohsa Foundation for Early Childhood Education Nicaragua and Plan International.
In the case of Fundación Ficohsa, according to the Mint agreement, the argument for ceasing functions was “decrease in resources to continue developing its objectives and purpose.”

Ficohsa Foundation had legal personality since November 2016, according to decree 8139 published in La Gaceta. In these eight years of operation, according to publications that it has published on its social networks, it has contributed to the quality of education in Nicaragua, even working hand in hand with the Ministry of Education (Mined), building or rehabilitating preschools, which allowed for improvement. the conditions under which dozens of Nicaraguan children received classes in the country.
For NGOs that voluntarily request their dissolution, the regime allows them to liquidate their collaborators, their assets and properties. But, if they are canceled, they run the risk that the regime will decide to confiscate their assets, passing everything in the name of the State of Nicaragua.
From 2018 to date, according to independent media monitoring, more than 5,700 NGOs have been canceled by the Ortega regime. In addition to that, more than 160 NPOs have requested voluntary dissolution before the Mint authorities.
