The uniformed officer was alerted by a citizen about a case of animal abuse and immediately attended to the case. However, what he didn’t know was that the cat would become his company.
News Cali.
The recent COP16, held in the city of Cali, not only left its mark for advances in sustainability and climate change, but also for moving stories of solidarity and humanity. One of the most endearing stories that emerged during the event was that of a cat named ‘Bily’ and his unexpected rescue by Deputy Mayor Jhon Díaz, of the Health Directorate of the National Police.

During the days of the event, the National Police reinforced security in the city with more than 4,000 uniformed personnel, including Deputy Mayor Díaz, who arrived as part of the support for the Cali Metropolitan Police. However, what he did not expect was that his mission was not only one of safety, but also of rescue and love for a vulnerable being.
It all started when Deputy Mayor Díaz received a report of animal abuse from a citizen who warned about a cat that was tied to the roof of a home.
According to Díaz, ‘Bily’ had been hit by his owner, a situation that led him to intervene immediately. «’Bily’, who was tied to the roof of a house, is rescued. “He was beaten by his owner,” the deputy mayor said about the discovery.
Now, ‘Bily’ has a home and an owner who provides him with all the care
Without thinking twice, Jhon Díaz decided to take the cat with him to Bogotá, where he provided veterinary care and the care necessary for its recovery. «They did some tests and gave him the corresponding vaccines. After a few days of food and affection, the cat has been recovering,” added Díaz, who, due to the special connection he developed with ‘Bily’, made an even more important decision: adopt him.
Despite not having animals and living alone, the deputy mayor decided to give ‘Bily’ a home. “I bought him a crate, food, dishes, blanket, everything,” he commented affectionately.
With this noble act, Jhon Díaz not only gave a second chance to an abused animal, but also sent an important message about care and respect for animals. “Let’s not mistreat the animals, they are great company for us, all they ask for is love, affection, nothing more,” concluded the deputy mayor.
