Dirigentes del PLD depositan instancia para evitar que sea juramentada alcaldesa de La Vega

Leaders of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) This Thursday they filed an application before the Civil and Commercial Chamber of La Vega rejecting Vice Mayor Amparo Custodio being sworn in as mayor of the La Vega City Council.

He Council of Aldermen of La Vega approved to revoke the resolution that accepted the resignation of the vice mayor Custodial Protection. Of 17 councilors present, 11 voted in favor of the new provision.

“In this way he will be able to occupy the position that the people gave him along with former mayor Kelvin Cruz in the municipal elections where they achieved more than 77 percent of the votes,” he said in a note.

It says that the measure was adopted at the request of representatives of dozens of neighborhood council associations, community organizations and social leaders of La Vega who asked to return to the normal functioning and development of the town hall.

Meanwhile, Custodio explained that he is in the best position to take over “after reflecting on so many requests that have recommended that he return for institutional peace and tranquility.”

The People’s Force also opposed

To occupy the mayor’s office La VegaAmparo Custodio, who resigned from her position as vice mayor, was committing the usurpation of functions, according to the party Power of the People (FP).

According to the secretary of Municipal Affairs of the political organization, Ignacio Ditrenthe decision of the Chapter House to revoke Custodio’s resignation and appoint her as mayor, in addition to appointing a vice mayor, is an “absurd” fact

He predicts that “months later she will resign, so that the councilor they want to impose takes over the direction of the city council.”

Given this conflict, theto FP and various organizations have demanded that new elections be called, underscoring the importance of respecting the will of the voters. “We call for respect for the constitution, the law and the will of the people of La Vega”said Ditrén on behalf of FP.

In that same sense, the councilor of the Power of the PeopleFernando Sánchez, pointed out that the councilors have already fulfilled the mandate of the Law 176-07, knowing the resignation of Amparo Custodio, so now “it makes no sense or legal basis to want to go back, when the law does not provide for this procedure.”

“The people voted for a mayor and a vice mayor, and both irresponsibly abandoned their positions,” Sánchez added.
