The constant demonstrations carried out by the Dominican Association of Teachers(ADP) and other unions in the sector, affects thousands of public education students, as a result of the suspensions that result from these demonstrations.
The situation worries entities such as Acción Empresarial para la Educación, EDUCA, who reveal that every day without classes represents a loss of 760 million pesos.
The Executive Director of Educa, Enrique Darwin Caraballoindicated that the problem, in addition to the damage it causes to the dynamics and quality of education, represents “a lost investment” on the part of the State.
“When you can observe the impact that Non-teaching has, generally an expense made by the State, for a specific function that is not fulfilled and therefore can be classified as a lost investment,” he added.
School Menu
Among the evils caused by “non-teaching” as a result of the strikes, he highlights the waste of food used in the public school menu.
“Likewise, the foods that are thrown away because they are wasted, such as milk, bread, fruits, etc.,” added the advisor in the area.
ADP demonstrations
So far this year the Dominican Association of Teachers, (ADP) has carried out nearly a dozen strikes at the national level that have affected teaching at least 2.6 million studentsof the Initial, Primary, Secondary and Adult Modality levels.
The reasons for these demonstrations remain the same, salary increases, pensions, and other “demands.”
