The senior official of Peru before the APECRenato Reyes, indicated to Peru21 that today the joint meeting of foreign ministers and trade ministers of the 21 economies of APEC 2024 began.

Likewise, Reyes pointed out that the three topics that were proposed by Peru in its capacity as president of the important forum are being addressed.
“They are addressing three issues that have to do with the three priorities that Peru has proposed within its presidency: innovation, digitalization to promote the transition to the formal and global economy,” he said.
Then, the senior official added that “also the issue of sustainable growth to generate resilient development in our economies. And trade and investment as an instrument to promote inclusive and interconnected economic growth.”
Likewise, he highlighted that, since Saturday, virtual meetings have been held, but the negotiation has been carried out virtually for weeks in order to reach agreements.
“The technical negotiating groups are precisely working on the drafting, seeking balances to be able to reach consensus on four documents that will allow approval, no later than this Saturday,” he indicated.
In that sense, he explained that one of the documents sought to be approved is “a roadmap to promote the transition to the global and formal economy.” Also contemplated is “the Ichma declaration, a new look at what the agenda of the Asia-Pacific free trade area should be.” Besides. “the APEC 2024 economic leaders’ statement and the joint statement of APEC foreign and trade ministers.”
Reyes highlighted that there are 21 economies and that each one has a focus, which is why they seek to reach consensus. “That is APEC, seeking the balance point to be able to reach initiatives that can be accepted and reflect the interests of all economies,” he said.
