On the second day of conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, the dollar rose again and returned to the levels of the beginning of the week. The stock market recovered from recent declines and rose by more than 1%, benefiting from the appreciation of several commodities (primary goods with international quotations).
The commercial dollar ended this Friday (25) sold at R$5.156, up by R$0.051 (+0.99%). The price even started the day down, but rose shortly after the opening of the North American market. At the maximum of the day, around 15:00, the currency reached R$ 5.17.
The highs of the last two days made the dollar close the week with a small appreciation of 0.28%. Despite the rise, the currency ended February with a fall of 2.82%, the fourth consecutive month of decline. The currency has accumulated a 12.42% decline since January 5, when it reached R$5.71.
The stock market had a day of recovery. After two consecutive falls, the Ibovespa index, on the B3, closed at 113,142 points, up 1.39%. The indicator ended February with a rise of 0.9%, the third consecutive month of increase. For the week, the index rose 0.2%.
Despite the external turmoil, the stock market rose because of the global rise in several commodities (primary goods with international quotations). The appreciation of iron ore boosted mining shares. The rise in the price of a barrel of oil benefited Petrobras, which has the most traded shares on the stock exchange.
In relation to the exchange rate, the real had the worst performance among the currencies of emerging countries this Friday. Part of the rise can be explained by the fall at the beginning of the week, which made the currency very cheap and boosted the purchase by investors.
