Within the framework of the session of the Departmental Board, Mayor Malvina Sarett of the Colorado Party, submitted a request to the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) to resolve the lighting problems at the entrance to the city of Colonia, specifically in the section of Route 1 that includes the bridge over the La Caballada stream. The councilor underlined the importance of this road and highlighted that, “following the concern of residents about the lack of intermittent lighting, it is essential to take urgent measures to maintain road safety in the area.”
Sarett received a response from the MTOP informing him that they had inspected the area’s infrastructure and detected damage to the underground electrical conductor caused by rodents that have damaged the wiring in multiple points, which prevents conventional repairs from being carried out. The Mayor reported that “the Ministry explains that to resolve the problem in a lasting manner, the ministry is acquiring a new special electrical conductor with anti-rodent insulation, designed to prevent future damage by the fauna of the place and it is estimated that the work replacement will begin in approximately two weeks.”
Likewise, the MTOP has notified the Lighting Directorate of the Municipality of Colonia, requesting that additional precautions be taken during peak traffic hours to guarantee the safety of those traveling through this area.
