The data was slightly lower than the central forecast of a 1% increase reported by the Timely Indicator of Economic Activity.
By component and with data adjusted for seasonality, the monthly variation in December 2021 was as follows: secondary activities increased 1.2%, tertiary activities increased 0.7% and primary activities decreased 1.1%.
Along with this information, the figures of the preliminary estimate of GDP for the last quarter of 2021 were revised, which suggested that the economy had had a slight contraction at the end of the year.
According to Grupo Financiero Monex, with the best performance recorded for December, the variation is calculated at a quarterly increase of 0.02% against a preliminary 0.08% decrease and an annual increase of 1.10% against the previous 0.95%. After the publication of the data, the Mexican peso has remained stable around 20.43 per dollar.
The @INEGI_INFORMA updates the calculation of the Gross Domestic Product #GDP of Mexico for the fourth quarter of 2021: it is revised from a decrease of (-)0.1% qoq in the timely estimate (January 31) to a null quarterly variation (0.02%).
