According to International Labor Organization (ILO) there are approximately between two and three million young people in Latin America and the Caribbean who have left the labor force in the first quarter of 2021, reaching the highest level recorded so far. Meanwhile in PeruAccording to Macroconsult estimates, around 1 million would be classified as ‘ninis’, that is, they neither work nor study.
“The impact of the pandemic on this generation is undeniable. In addition to the fact that many lost their jobs, it is a reality that others had to leave their studies, truncating the possibilities of accessing a formal job and, in this way, creating a new barrier of lack of experience. This represents greater difficulties in finding a job in the future; That is why our contribution from Sodexo for this year, from our Diversity and Inclusion strategy, is to target the hiring of young people at a regional level with the deployment of our employability program called “Talent Generation that seeks to increase our talent by 10%”. ages between 18 and 30 years old” comments Alfonso de los Heros, Country President of Sodexo Peru.

In line with the aforementioned and according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), the percentage of young people in informality rose 20 points compared to 2019; making them the slowest recovering age group compared to others. Before the pandemic, the high incidence of informality already affected six out of 10 young workers.
“At the regional level, we have more than 11,000 young people hired at Sodexo. This year our efforts will aim to achieve a young employer brand in the Latin American countries where we have a presence. We will train the talents in the family circle, we will develop and promote the young talent that our collaborators refer, we will provide job opportunities for the first job, among other actions that point to this objective “says Verónica Pacheco, Director of Human Resources of Sodexo Peru.
In this way, Sodexo is committed to building a team with young human talent, with jobs where they feel fulfilled. As recalled in the last Merco Talento 2021, the Sodexo Group was positioned as the best company in its category to attract and retain talent. It leads the Sectoral Ranking of “Various Services” for three consecutive years and in the General Ranking, it is among the Top 20 of the most attractive companies in the Peruvian labor market. In addition, it has an internal engagement level of 81%, a number that has increased by twelve points in the last two years of the pandemic.
