JNJ ratifies 120-day suspension of supreme prosecutor Pablo Sánchez

The Plenary Session of the National Board of Justice (JNJ) ratified the 120-day suspension of the supreme prosecutor Pablo Sánchez Velarde by rejecting by majority the appeal for reconsideration presented by the magistrate against the resolution that sanctioned him last May.

The decision was adopted by a majority of 4 votes to 2, after the rapporteur member, Guillermo Thornberry, presented his report that rejected the supreme prosecutor’s reconsideration.

As recalled, the JNJ imposed the disciplinary measure of suspension by proving that the magistrate committed very serious disciplinary offenses by having received an allowance as a member of the National Academy of Judiciary (AMAG), between 2020 and 2021, in addition of salaries as supreme prosecutor and as a teacher.

The plenary session of the JNJ considered that with said conduct the magistrate infringed the duties provided for in the Law of the Fiscal Career, the Code of Ethics of the Public Ministry, as well as the Code of Ethics of the Public Service.

“The resolution (of the dismissal) followed the standards of justification of the decisions that are set forth in the Constitution, doctrine and constitutional jurisprudence,” highlighted the rapporteur member.

In that sense, the plenary session of the JNJ ratified the sanction by majority, declaring the appeal for reconsideration presented by the supreme prosecutor unfounded in all its aspects and thus concluded the disciplinary procedure.
