New US Secretary of State has maintained a firm stance towards Venezuela

The US Secretary of State nominated by President-elect Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, said this Wednesday that under Trump’s leadership, peace will be achieved “through force.” The senator has pointed out that the negotiations, the withdrawal of sanctions and the delivery of convicts triggered the Venezuelan crisis

The decision of the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, to nominate the senator Marco Rubio as secretary of the State Department, and other key appointments, could influence an eventual hardening of policies towards Venezuela.

This Wednesday, November 13, Trump formalized Rubio’s choice.

“Leading the United States Department of State is an enormous responsibility and I am honored by the trust President Trump has placed in me. As Secretary of State, I will work every day to advance your foreign policy agenda. Under the leadership of President Trump “We will achieve peace through strength and we will always put the interests of Americans and the United States above all else.”Rubio said this Tuesday in his account on the social network X.

Rubio said he hopes to win the support of his colleagues in the United States Senate so that Trump will have his national security and foreign policy team ready when he takes office on January 20.

For his part, Trump said: “It is my great honor to announce that Senator Marco Rubio of Florida has been nominated to serve as Secretary of State of the United States.” The US president-elect maintained that “Marco is a highly respected leader and a very powerful voice in defense of freedom.”

In addition, the president-elect indicated that Marco Rubio “will be a strong defender of our nation, a true friend of our allies and a brave warrior who will never surrender to our adversaries. “I look forward to working with Marco to make America and the world safe and great again!”

The 53-year-old Cuban-American Republican senator from Florida has served on Senate Committees that address issues related to national security and foreign policy. His position on the government of Venezuela and others in the region has been quite clear.

On Monday, November 11, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar said that the presidents of Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua They should be uneasy about Trump’s next policy.

«Díaz-Canel, Maduro and Ortega must have nightmares. With Trump in the White House and Marco in the State Department, they know that the days of their dictatorships are numbered. You can already breathe the air of freedom. It is time to remove the cancer of socialism. “Now the good thing begins!” Salazar said on his account on the social network X.

On July 29, one day after the presidential elections in Venezuela, Marco Rubio stressed in a release from the press: «To no one’s surprise, the dictator Nicolás Maduro has once again stolen a presidential election. However, what will never steal is the desire of the Venezuelan people to live in democracy again and free after decades of tyranny.

In that sense, the new head of US foreign policy urged to prioritize the union of the free world “to reject these false electoral results and achieve the release of Venezuelans who remain arbitrarily detained in torture centers as political prisoners.”

On November 2, in the middle of the campaign for the US presidency, Rubio said at a rally in Florida that if Trump won, there would be a firmer stance in his foreign policy towards Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, in order to achieve democratic change.

In this context, the Republican has pointed out that the negotiations, withdrawal of sanctions and the delivery of Venezuelan convicts in the United States triggered the current Venezuelan situation.

«The Biden administration meets secretly with the Maduro regime and makes an arrangement in which Biden gives the following: to Alex Saab, a criminal we had here in this state; He gave Maduro’s nephews, he removed sanctions against the oil that was bringing billions of dollars a month to the Maduro regime, for an election that Maduro was going to steal,” he emphasized.

On the other hand, in September of this year, the senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio announced the introduction of the Securing Timely Opportunities for Payment and Maximizing Awards for Detaining Unlawful Regime Officials (STOP Maduro) bill. The objective of this initiative is for the US to raise the reward to 100 million dollars for the capture of President Nicolás Maduro.

This reward was offered in March 2020 by the government of then-president Donald Trump.

Trump also named to the congressman Mike Waltz as national security advisor. Waltz is one of the Republican legislators in the United States Congress who, in August of this year, wrote a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee to support the nomination of opposition leader María Corina Machado for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The letter noted Machado’s “remarkable contributions to restoring democratic governance in Venezuela, risking everything and facing endless threats to help the Venezuelan people elect a legitimate leader like President-elect Edmundo González.”
