President affirms there is food to supply for Christmas

Presidente afirma hay alimentos para abastecer Navidad

The Christmas supply is assured in the Dominican Republic, the president stated yesterday Luis Abinaderby ensuring that there are enough chickens, pigs, eggs, potatoes, fruits, milk, rice, bananas, onions, cassava and other basic items, since the country “is planted” and there will be record production.

The president discussed the issue at the meeting LA Weeklytogether with the Ministers of Agriculture, Limber Cruz; the administrator of the Agricultural Bank, Fernando Durán, and the directors of the Economic Kitchens… and that of INESPRE, Iván Hernández Guzmán, where Christmas supplies and the behavior of agricultural production and financing for agricultural producers were discussed.

Regarding the actions that the Government will carry out to keep the population supplied with food in the coming months between these six Christmas fairs that are expected to benefit more than 480 thousand people; plus 95 weekly farmers markets.

Other actions also include mobile warehouses in more than 400 locations throughout the country with 400 operations to benefit more than 480,00 people.

Edgar A. Feliz Méndezreported that the Economic Kitchens will distribute more than 10 million portions of food in 135 establishments and will be delivered, through community organizations, 400 thousand raw portions with food from the basic basket and Christmas.

They will also deliver 50,000 daily cooked meals and more than 2,500 Christmas dinners and lunches for 500 people per event, and in 300 towns they will install mobile kitchens to distribute Christmas dinners and lunches.

Limber Cruz, Minister of Agriculture, assured that there is great availability of food, including rice, onion, potatoes, cassava, bananas, pork, chicken and eggs, whose production increased between 4% and 239%, in relation to 2021 and 2024.

He added that there is 25 million units of chickens guaranteed.

“A sufficient supply of products is guaranteed, distributed regionally to ensure both profitability for producers and affordable prices for consumers,” said Cruz.

They will also carry out “The Route of Hope” through the Presidency’s Social Plan, which includes the delivery of food rations house to house.

Fernando Durán, administrator of Banco Agrícola, said that this entity increased its credit portfolio from 30,306 million in 2020 to 55,851 million this year and that it has disbursed RD$127,515 million in 110,038 loans granted and RD$22,500 million in fresh resources from the national budget to the different programs.

Terrorism airplane shooting

He affirmed that the country will continue to deport illegal migrants and that government representatives are discussing the case of labor and expired permits with agricultural producer associations.
