Faced with rejection by the population, the controls and the warning of sanctions, the transporters retreated in their intention to increase the price of the bus ticket and maintain the Bs 2.
This Tuesday, after an expansion of the sector, the leader Segundo Ricalde, reported that they will maintain the rate, but will continue to seek an adjustment through regular channels. In this way, they nullify the deadline they gave to apply a new rate from this Wednesday if the City Council did not speak out.
“There is nothing new, Bs 2 will continue to be charged, so that the population is calm“, stated Ricalde, pointing out that they hope to be summoned by the Council to continue the analysis at the work tables.
Likewise, this Tuesday it was learned that the technical tables, which analyzed the situation of public transportation, They did not find a justification for an increase in the rate, Instead, they recommend a rearrangement of the system to optimize costs.
The Executive reported that this Tuesday he sent the conclusions of the work tables to the Municipal Council, suggesting that before evaluating a rate adjustment, The registration of lines and conductors must be completed.
“No justification was found for raising the cost of the ticket, rather we made recommendations that they themselves optimize their processes, their costs, that is, there has to be a reorganization of public transportation, which the Municipal Government has to address,” highlighted the president of the Society of Engineers, Rolando Mancilla, an institution that participated in the work tables.
This Monday the transporters of the November 16 Federation sent a letter to the Council, in which they give a period of 48 hours to upload the ticket.
In this regard, the president of the Council, Silvana Mucarzel, confirmed that the rate remains at Bs 2, indicating that until now there is no document or report from the Executive on the result of the conclusions of the technical tables. “It is pertinent to inform that the obligation to prepare the technical study of public transportation service fare costs, in the jurisdiction of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, is the responsibility of the Executive, who, according to legal provisions, must present a proposal on the fares. Said study must be carried out based on specialized methodologies, as well as experiences tested in the field, and taking into account the respective considerations and observecions of users, neighborhood councils and social control, under Law 1216 and its regulations,” states a letter signed by Mucarzel and the councilor secretary, Miguel Fernández.
The spokesperson for the Mayor’s Office, Bernardo Montenegro, responded that this Tuesday the Executive sent the conclusions of the working groups so that “it is this instance that analyzes whether it is competent or not a leveling.”
He pointed out that the Executive recommends that, before an adjustment, all lines undergo registration, which will allow us to know how many units circulate in the city, their age and whether they meet the conditions to provide the service.
“Registration is necessary and based on this the next step is taken, which is the analysis of whether or not to raise the rate,” the spokesperson said.
From May 2023, The Mayor’s Office has tried to implement driver registration and public transport vehicles, but to date less than 30% of the lines have undergone this procedure.
