Santo Domingo. – The state Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) will grant the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa” to the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, in recognition of his contributions to the institutions, transparency and defense of democratic values in the country, within the framework of the commemoration of the 486th anniversary of the academy.
The decision was approved by the University Council and ratified by the Minor Senate of the UASD through Resolution No. 2024-293, in an assembly with the participation of 264 members, however, there is still no date for its delivery.
In the same resolution, the same distinction was also approved for Dr. Marina Ariza, a Dominican sociologist with an outstanding academic and research career in Mexico, to whom said recognition was given last Wednesday, November 6 of this year.

In this sense, the rector of the UASD, Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo, emphasized the relevance of this distinction during his speech in the emblematic Aula Magna of the institution.
“We have complied with Article 38 of our Organic Statute, and today we celebrate the work of our Academy, as well as the unconditional support we have received from President Abinader,” he expressed.
Beltrán Crisóstomo highlighted the “expansion process” of the UASD, thanks to the support of the government, which has facilitated the creation of new university facilities in various locations in the country.
He said that in just two years and four months, the university has increased its presence from 18 to 32 political-administrative divisions, establishing campuses in towns such as Azua, Baní and Hato Mayor, among others.
The rector presented the annual report of the UASD corresponding to the period October 2023-September 2024, highlighting the institutional, teaching and research advances achieved under his management.
Likewise, the creation of seven new Experimental High Schools was announced that will facilitate access to higher education in various communities, including a smart classroom in each of them, which ensures educational continuity for students who complete high school.
