The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), established in November 1989, is an economic forum made up of 21 economies in the Asia-Pacific, considered the most dynamic region in the world.
This is an initiative whose main objective is to promote a more open and efficient commercial and investment environment, as well as facilitate economic growth in the region.
Member economies include countries such as the United States, Russia, China, Japan, Australia, Canada, among others. APEC works in various areas, such as reducing trade barriers, promoting investment, sustainable development and cooperation on issues such as education and technology.
With these initiatives, an annual summit is organized where the leaders of the member economies meet to discuss and establish policies that promote these objectives. In that sense, our country is hosting APEC again this year for the third time, after having hosted it in 2008 and 2016. This decision is part of the State policy of strengthening our relations with the Asia-Pacific region.
