Cicpc investigates poisonings in two high schools located in Portuguesa

The Secretary of Citizen Security of Portuguesa indicated that there are two teenagers detained for their alleged connection with the poisoning at the 27 de Julio high school in Turén


The Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (Cicpc) began an investigation to determine the causes that caused the poisoning of more than 150 people in two high schools located in the state of Portuguesa in recent days and in Barinas, with 94 affected, after participating in a viral challenge called “Chroming”; which consists of inhaling toxic chemicals in common products such as deodorants, paints or insecticides.

This challenge, according to the newspaper El Impulso, can have fatal consequences for those who practice it, as happened in Australia with a 13-year-old girl.

“Blood samples were taken from the students who were intoxicated to (…) determine what type of substances could have affected our students,” Luis Medina, reported on Instagram, Secretary of Citizen Security from Portuguese.

In the same social network account of this organization, it was indicated that the regional authorities are focused in a “serious and responsible” manner on providing medical care to intoxicated young people and highlighted that free health care was guaranteed to these people.

The general commissioner of the Cicpc Luis Medina, secretary of Citizen Security of the Portuguesa state, indicated that there are two teenagers detained for their alleged connection with the poisoning of the students at the 27 de Julio high school in Turén.

He highlighted that the samples taken from the intoxicated were sent to Caracas to find out what substance was used and added that there are 33 students still under medical observation, the media reported. Portuguese Scoop.

“Chroming” can cause different effects on the human body:

  • Irreversible brain damage: Inhaling these substances can cause long-term brain damage, affecting memory, concentration and learning.
  • Cardiac arrest: In extreme cases, Chroming can cause cardiac arrest and death.
  • Dependence: Repeated use of these substances can lead to dependence and addiction.
  • Mental health problems: Teenagers who participate in these types of challenges can develop mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.

On November 7, it was reported that at least 85 people – including teachers, professors and security personnel – were poisoned at the 27 de Junio ​​high school in Turén, Portuguesa state, for unknown reasons.

80 students, two teachers, two officers of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) and a nurse were poisoned; presenting respiratory difficulty in some cases and fainting in others. They were taken to various health centers such as the Dr. Armando Delgado Montero hospital in the town, the Oswaldo Barrios hospital in Píritu and private health centers in Villa Bruzual.

Four days later, about 20 people, including students and teaching staff, from the José de La Cruz Paredes high school in the state of Portuguesa, entered the CDI of Banco Obrero in San Rafael de Onoto, presenting fainting and other symptoms similar to those evident in the high school July 27
