The inhabitants of the San José Mulatos hamlet, in Turbo (Antioquia), had a great scare. with the eruption of the volcano that bears the same name of the place. It is one of the mud volcanoes in the area.

However, the mayor of Turbo, Alejandro Abuchar, reported that “three children were affected by smoke inhalation and momentarily lost consciousness. They are being treated at the San Pedro de Urabá hospital“.

Located between the El Tres (Turbo) district and the municipality of San Pedro de Urabá, This volcano is part of the Sinú belt, in the Colombian coastal region, between the Gulf of Urabá and Barranquilla.

Andrés Julián Rendón, governor of Antioquia, reported through his X account that it had been activated at Administrative Department of Risk Management of Antioquia (Dagran) to address the emergency.

From the SColombian Geological Survey (SGC), For its part, it was explained that “It is important to highlight that this type of mud volcanoes are different from lava and magma volcanoes, which are explosive and violent. These mud volcanoes have small, restricted eruptions. It is likely, as seen in these videos, that it is methane gas and possible distribution of mud around“.
