The provinces on “yellow alert” increase to 24, plus one on red

Santo Domingo.- The provinces on “yellow alert” increased to 23, plus the National District, while a “red alert” was issued for San Francisco de Macorís, due to the increase in rain, which, according to the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet ), will worsen in the coming hours.

The downpours are caused by a trough and a tropical disturbance located in the Caribbean Sea, which will cause an increase in cloudiness in towns located on the Caribbean coast, the east, north and center of the country.

The COE raised the province of Duarte to red alert

He Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported that a “yellow alert” was issued for the provinces of Monte Plata, La Vega, San Juan, San José de Ocoa, Espaillat, El Seibo, Hato Mayor and La Altagracia.

In addition, Santiago de los Caballeros, San Cristóbal, Monseñor Nouel, Hermanas Mirabal, María Trinidad Sánchez, Santo Domingo, Samaná, San Pedro de Macorís, Azua, Peravia, plus the National District.

Baoruco, Barahona, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís and Independencia are also added to this list, while another five appear in green, according to to the COE and Meteorology.

The downpours of the last few hours flooded homes in the “Los Sin Bañarse” neighborhood, in Las Lilas in the Los Tres Brazos sector, in Santo Domingo Este, according to local residents.

The United States National Hurricane Center (CNH) warned, at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, that this disturbance could achieve some development in the coming days and become a tropical depression.

The system has a 10% chance of evolving in the next two days, and a 50% chance in seven, according to the CNH.

In recent hours, heavy rainfall has been recorded in much of the country, which is why both the COE and Meteorology urged the population to take precautionary measures due to possible flooding.
