Cifar indicated that the pharmaceutical sector grew by 17% in September 2024

Cifar indicated that from January to September 2024 there was a 39% increase in market growth compared to 2023, accounting for more than 226 million medications versus 162 million last year in the same period.


The Venezuelan Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry (Cifar) reported on Sunday, November 10, that the sector’s market experienced a growth of 17% during the month of September compared to the same period in 2023, when some 22.15 million medications were recorded. distributed versus 18.82 last year.

Cifar stated that from January to September the milestone of 226.51 million drugs distributed in the market was reached; which represents 39% more if compared to 2023 when 162.02 million were distributed in the same period. In that sense, it foresees a growth of 38% in the sector by the end of the year with projections of reaching 300 million medicines.

In its balance, the organization pointed out that there is an increase in the availability of hormones, antiparasitics, products for diabetes and the digestive system, cardiovascular diseases and the central nervous system, among others.

To strengthen the sector, which operates at 48% of its installed capacity, Cifar asked the authorities, among other actions, to promote credit, promote the creation of laws that protect the national industry, establish alliances and reduce import taxes. of raw materials.

This request from Cifar has been unanimous in all economic sectors of the country to make the relevant reinvestments and increase national operations and production.

At the Conindustria congress held in Barquisimeto at end of octoberthe president of the industrial leadership, Luigi Pisella, highlighted the importance of the circular economy as an essential approach for the Venezuelan industry; emphasizing the relevance of proposing public policies that boost the sector such as fiscal stimuli, loans for SMEs, a macroeconomic plan to reduce the exchange rate differential, among others.

Cifar’s growth projection for the end of the year coincides with that presented by Fedecámaras Anzoátegui at the beginning of October when its president, Monique Loffredo, who pointed out that there are estimates of an economic rebound in the last quarter of 2024 due to the high commercial flow resulting from the Christmas holidays.
