Agriculture promotes cultivation of spices and non-traditional products in the country

The government, through Department of agriculturedevelops a plan to encourage farmers to cultivation of spices and nutsin order to achieve self-sufficiency in the country in the production of these products.

Technicians of the agricultural entity, by order of the minister limber crossThey held a meeting with agronomists and farmers in which they discussed the importance that it represents for the agricultural sector to venture into the cultivation of non-traditional products.

The field day was held at the Jarem Agroforestry Nursery, located in the La Cuaba community of the Pedro Brand municipality. On behalf of the Minister of farming The Vice Minister of Production and Marketing, Eulalio Ramírez, was present.

Through a statement, Ramírez emphasized that the vision of President Luis Abinader is to guarantee the food security of the population based on the production of these foods in the country, which is why he motivates them to diversify and take advantage of all the conditions for the different crops.

The spices and nuts they are imported due to the great demand and high consumption of the Dominican population. Non-traditional crops promoted by the Department of agriculture along with the Jarem nursery are olive, turmeric, vanilla, cardamom, walnut, strawberry guava, pepper, malagueta, sweet cloves and nutmeg, among others.

For the expansion of the project, Ramírez indicated that farming received a donation of one thousand vanilla plants and one thousand nutmeg plants.

Also participating in the activity were directors Amaury Rodríguez, from the Non-Traditional Crops Division; Ángel Feliz Jiménez, from Agricultural Production; Mariel Frías, from the National Department of Agribusiness; as well as General Felix González, operational director of the National Council for Livestock Production (Conaprope); and Emilio Jorge, technician in non-traditional crops, among others.
