2 Nigerians arrested for trying to travel with stomachs full of drugs

Santo Domingo. The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) arrested two Nigerian citizens at the Las Americas International Airport who intended to travel to Paris, France, on the same flight, with their stomachs full of bags containing alleged narcotic substances.

The operation, carried out by agents of the DNCD In coordination with members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC) and State intelligence agencies, it was directed by the Public Ministry. The two foreigners were intercepted after receiving intelligence reports. After applying the rigorous protocols, foreign bodies were detected in their digestive tracts through X-ray examinations.

The two arrested Nigerians remain in custody at the Armed Forces Central Hospital

Immediately, the Nigerians were transferred to the Central Hospital of the Armed Forces, where specialists began the process of expelling the bags of the substance.

“The two Nigerians, who will be identified in due course, planned to travel to France on the same flight from the Americas terminal. So far, they have expelled more than 150 bags of the substance, and the evacuation process continues,” the authorities indicated.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the detainees could belong to an international criminal network that uses people of various nationalities as “mules” to transport drugs in their stomachs to destinations in Europe and the United States.

The foreigners, aged 50 and 44, remain in custody at the Central Hospital of the Armed Forces, waiting to complete the process of expulsion of the bags to be placed at the disposal of the Permanent Attention Jurisdiction of the province of Santo Domingo.
