Nicole Silveira from Rio Grande do Sul won the silver medal in the first skeleton race of the Asian Cup, in PyeongChang (South Korea). The competition, which opens the 2024/2025 season, serves as preparation for the sport’s World Cup this year, also in Korea. This Friday (8), the Brazilian had the second best time in the race (1min48s35), being just 24 hundredths behind the winner, the Belgian Kim Meleymans, her teammate.
Nicole surpassed world skeleton exponents, such as the Dutch Kimberley Bos, current champion of the circuit, who ended the race in fourth place, and was also ahead of the German Hannah Neise, gold medalist at the Beijing Winter Olympics (2022), who today was in seventh place.
Although she didn’t get good starting times this Friday (8) – Nicole was the 14th best in two descents – the Brazilian climbed positions throughout the race, until she managed to be the second fastest. In the final straight Nicole surpassed Czech Anna Fernstaedt by 36 hundredths, who ended the race in third place.
The 29-year-old Brazilian returns to compete in the Asian Cup at 3am (Brasília time) this Saturday (9).
