Querétaro promotes adoption of Mioty technology

Querétaro, Qro. Through the collaboration between the Technological University of Querétaro (UTEQ) and the Fraunhofer Institute – a German organization dedicated to research – the aim is to promote the use of Mioty technology to the massive internet of things.

This type of technology, developed by the German institute, consists of a radio data transmission standard that allows massive interactive communication between a node (gateway) and up to 2.5 million smart objects – such as sensors, actuators and others – located in a radius up to 40 kilometers.

It is a cutting-edge technology already used in Europebut has not ventured into regions of North America and Latin America, explained the rector of UTEQ, José Carlos Arredondo Velázquez.

“This technology is new at the frontier, but an extraordinary instrument to provide technological solutions to the daily life of cities and groups. This technology was born at the Fraunhofer Institute recently and has begun to gain space in the world, especially in the world. of massive internet solutions,” he explained.

Mioty is a software-based, low-power wide area network (LPWAN) protocol intended to overcome current and future wireless connectivity limitations; Therefore, it is designed for massive implementations of the Internet of Things, according to information from the Mioty Alliance.

In August of this year, the university received the certificate of membership as a member of Mioty Alliance; With this, the university opened the possibility of providing wireless connection solutions with low energy consumption.

With this model we seek develop solutions in various areas: agribusiness, smart cities, mobility, aerospace industry, governments, etc.

“It is a lasting alliance that will have to advance as the members of the alliance are offering solutions to the world. So that will allow us to be linked to the most avant-garde and frontier in the world to provide specific solutions to issues of smart citiesagribusiness, mobility, logistics and any problem that may arise to continue advancing solutions,” he explained.

At the moment, the university has pilot projects, including one that is financed by the German government and in which three UTEQ students work, who develop a solution for agribusiness; Likewise, he said, they are developing a pilot solution for agriculture.

In addition, he added, there are companies that have shown interest in using solutions based on this technology, as well as state bodies that could adopt some proposals.

The representative of the Fraunhofer institute, Jörg Robert, explained that technology It has a design that makes it easy to use, therefore, companies and the academic sector can generate developments through it.

In the short and medium term, he anticipated, they will continue to develop specific services and products for the Latin American market. In Europe this technology is already used in gas pipeline applications, a market that could also develop in Mexico, as well as in agriculture and other areas.

“This technology is helping to save water and this is very important if you want to save natural resources, this project is being carried out with UTEQ students to be able to implement it in the Mexican market,” he noted.

In this context, UTEQ signed letters of intent with both the company GE Aerospace and Ridder, to collaborate in the use of mioty technology.
