On Thursday night the defense of President Sebastián Piñera was presented against the constitutional accusation that the opposition presented against him for the revelations of the sale of the Dominga mining company.
The 242-page document was delivered to the house of the Secretary General of the Chamber of Deputies after 11:00 p.m., according to information collected by 24 hours.
This Friday, the lawyer Jorge Gálvez will be in the commission in charge of reviewing the accusatory libel against the President, where he will present the defense arguments, at 3:00 p.m.
The review commission will vote on the accusation next Friday, November 5, and the voting in the Chamber will be on Monday, November 8.
What does the defense say?
Among the arguments, the document indicates that the constitutional accusation against the head of state is a “cunning political maneuver and with clear electoral purposes”, as it was able to gather “24 Hours. The libel” is an ostensible political-electoral maneuver, which it takes as based on assumptions, attributes intentions, confuses dates and distorts clear and precise rules of our legal system “.
It also maintains that “in a crafty way, the text of the accusation attempts to bring to the present a circumstance that occurred between 2010 and 2011, corresponding to a negotiation between private companies, where the President of the Republic had no participation or knowledge whatsoever.”
“The most serious thing that the letter adds, is the manifest contempt for the truth,” adds the document, for which they ask that the accusation be declared inadmissible.
In this regard, the deputy Osvaldo Urrutia said that “if this is approved, we are transforming ourselves into a ‘banana’ country as many have existed in Latin America in which the accusations to the Presidents of the Republic occur for anything and the destabilization of those states are dangerous for democracy. “
