The first Thursday of November commemorates the International Day against the Violence and the School Bullying with the purpose of make visible This problem that affects millions of children and adolescents around the world.
According to the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), harassment is the practice exercised in personal relationships, consisting of dispensing humiliating and disqualifying treatment to a person in order to destabilize them psychologically.
This anniversary was established by the United Nations Organization for the EducationScience and Culture (UNESCO) with the clear focus of knowing about these contexts of violence that develop in schools worldwide.
This year’s motto is “Protecteducate, empower: Students demand safe schools and inclusive” to highlight the essential role of education and “to end violence and the importance of the student perspective in the development of educational policies and practices.
This year’s theme focuses on global commitments and highlights the importance of urgency to confront violence in and through the educationas well as investing in intersectoral alliances.
“By amplifying the perspectives of students and the voices of boys and girls, the UNESCO calls on leaders to fulfill their commitments and promises to transform learning environments,” highlights a statement from that organization.
This year, the commemoration coincides with the opening of the first World Ministerial Conference on the elimination of Violence against Children, which will take place in BogotaColombia, on November 7 and 8.
Through a series of events organized during the conference, UNESCO and its partners “highlight the power of education to end violence and present good practices to address its causes.
