Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Senate ratified this Wednesday the president and three regular members of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) for the period 2024-2028.
The registration of the electoral body will be headed by its current president, Román Jáquez Liranzo; and Dolores Altagracia Fernández Sánchez will continue as regular members; Samir Rafael Chami Isa, and Rafael Armado Vallejo Santelises, while Hirayda Mercelle Fernández Guzmán joined.
While, as substitutes, only Prado Antonio López Cornielle, who will be replaced by Jáquez Liranzo, and Anibelca Rosario, the substitute for Fernández Guzmán, were ratified.

The process
The plenary session of Senate approved the only plan presented by the spokesperson of the Modern Revolutionary Party Bloc (PRM), Venerado Castillo, with a vote of 25 senators present in the session.
With the selection of the new judges of the electoral body, the Senate complies with article 306 of the legislative body that provides for the conclusion of the interview work, with the preselection of ten shortlists, five for the regular members, and the same number for the substitutes.
The president of the Special Commission, Julito Fulcar, presented to the plenary session a favorable report on the presentation of five shortlists that include a total of thirty names of the candidates to direct the electoral body and requested that it be included in the Agenda of the present session.
Fulcar detailed the analysis process for choosing the new candidates to direct the electoral body, and reported that the interviews were carried out in the morning and afternoon and that they completed five-minute presentation shifts and that later, they were interviewed by the members of the Special Commission.
To participate in the interview process, the list with the names and requirements established to participate in this process was published in the media and on the platform of the Senate of the Republic, in which 101 citizens registered, of which they were 30 candidates selected to make up the shortlists presented
Fulcar highlighted the hard work carried out by the commission, “we worked hard, with transparent and committed ethics to elect this new plenary session of the JCE.”
The Special Commission appointed by the Plenary for the selection of the members of that electoral body was chaired by the Senator of the Peravia Province, Julio Fulcar and was completed by senators Antonio Manuel Taveras Guzmán, Pedro Catrain Bonilla. Daniel Rivera, María Mercedes Ortiz, Ramón Rogelio Genao, Franklin Romero, Aracelis Villanueva and Félix Bautista.
