Inflation gains strength in the first half of February

In December 2021 and January of this year, inflation lost strength, giving Mexicans a break in their pockets. The prices of products and services ended the first month of the year at 7.07%.

Within the underlying index, food, beverages and tobacco registered the highest increase (9.21%, followed by merchandise (8.23%) and non-food merchandise (7.16%), detailed the Inegi.

With regard to non-core inflation, the highest increases occurred in fruits and vegetables (18.51%9, agricultural (15.79%) and livestock (13.72%).

Gas price picks up

The price of LP gas again boosted the National Consumer Price Index, during the first fortnight of February, reporting a variation of 3.02% compared to the previous fortnight.

Compared to the previous fortnight, lemon and LP gas registered the highest fortnightly increases with 3.64 and 3.02%, respectively; while poblano chili and zucchini were the products with the greatest decreases.

Inflation was again placed more than 3 percentage points above the upper range of Banco de México, whose goal for the indicator is 3% +/- one percentage point, so analysts believe that increases in the rate will continue. interest, currently at 6%.

The next central bank monetary policy announcement will take place on March 24.
