Triqui activists Adriana and Virginia are murdered in Oaxaca

For several years, Adriana demanded the presentation alive of her cousins Virginia and Daniela, alleged victims of forced disappearance, last seen in July 2007.

Emilia Ortiz García, human rights defender and sister of the victims, demanded a prompt and expeditious investigation by the three levels of government.

Following the events, this Wednesday morning the Triqui Unification and Struggle Movement (MULT) demonstrated in the vicinity of the Ministry of the Interior in Mexico City to demand that those responsible for the murder of Adriana and Punish be investigated and punished. Virginia also announced that they would carry out blockades in all regions of the country where they have a presence.

On October 28, a mobilization for the pacification of the Triqui Nation was registered in Oaxaca, where they demanded to have a public audience with President Sheinbaum.

Pascual de Jesús González, spokesperson for the MULT in Mexico City, reported that until November 6, 2024, there have been 33 extrajudicial executions of members of said organization.

The Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office reported this Wednesday that the violent death of the two women of Triqui origin is already being investigated with a gender and intercultural perspective.

“Upon learning of these events, the FGEO deployed a multidisciplinary team to carry out the investigations, headed by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Attention to High Impact Crimes, which carried out the first investigations at the scene and is in charge of the ministerial tasks to define the lines of investigation around the case,” reported the Prosecutor’s Office.
